Having issues with connecting Oculus Quest 3 to your phone app, to Cast? Here is how professional is Meta, with support

You are not the only one!

A few days ago I tried to connect my Oculus Quest 3 to my new phone Google Pixel 6 Pro.
In parallel I tried to connect to the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra, my old phone, that was previously connected to the Oculus Quest 2 that I had and I sold and the connection it worked great, being able to Cast.
Oculus Quest 3 was unable to connect to both phones initially but after a lot of troubleshooting I manages to connect it to Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra.

Google Pixel 6 is still unable to Cast, but it can connect to the Headset only that is only having the sound but not the image from the cast, still showing the Cast button.
I spent more than 8 hours with support team chatting and trying things. Is not something that I wish or like to do. I expect to see it working straight away, as it happen before with Oculus Quest 2.

The Meta support team has a few big problems.

We have been chatting by WhatsApp and their session was so short that if I wasn't answering after for a few minutes, the support person was changing and a new case was starting with a new reference number. In the end I was given a reference number to use for anyone else was connection on a new support session.

Even if I was able to see in the chat history all the conversation from the beginning, the new support person that was connecting was asking me again "How can I help?" It was an absolutely crazy experience to have to say again the problem or to mention each time, please read the above or here is the reference number.

Here is the full conversation

You can read it all but if you don't have time to do that I will tell you in a few words what happened.

I used 2 phones I had to connect my Oculus Quest 3 to the app and Cast.

A Sony Experia XA2 Ultra - my old phone that I used for years and that I also used before to connect the Oculus Quest 2 I had. I worked without problems, including the Cast functions on the Oculus app.

A Google Pixel 6 pro - a phone that I both recently. I installed the Oculus app and tried to Cast but it didn't worked.

I never tried to Cast from Oculus Quest to on the Pixel 6 because I sold the old VR headset.

So I contacted support. Initially from the app, but that service has a downside. If I wasn't answering on a short time after they answered the session was closed and I had to start again. So I saw somewhere the message that i can switch on WhatsApp so this is what I did.

Only that even on WhatsApp for me it was no session ending but for the support team it was still the same case. I was able to see all the conversation from the beginning but I am not convinced that they could do the same because I was always asked about my problem, so i had to give them all the time the reference number.

They told me to try a list of things and I tried them all, none worked and in this time I spoke with probably more than 5 support agents which became very annoying.

After many hours spent trying things and waiting for them to answer I abandoned the problem in the first instance. I came back to it after a while and I got no proper help.

Struggling to Cast My Meta Quest 3

I reached out to Meta Store Support because my Meta Quest 3 wouldn’t pair with the mobile app. After several troubleshooting attempts, I finally managed to get the pairing to work, but then another problem appeared: casting from the headset to my phone failed.

Support guided me through a long list of steps — rebooting both the headset and my phone, reinstalling the Quest app, checking for updates, and even performing a factory reset. Pairing worked fine afterward, but casting still didn’t. The headset showed the red dot that indicates casting, yet my phone app stayed stuck on “Connecting…” without ever showing video or audio.

Interestingly, casting worked perfectly on my older Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra, both with the Quest 2 I had before and now with the Quest 3. But on my newer Google Pixel 6 Pro, the app simply refused to cast. That strongly suggested to me this wasn’t a Wi-Fi or setup issue — it felt more like a software bug.

I grew frustrated during the process. Each time I re-connected with support, a different agent took over and often asked me to repeat the same troubleshooting steps. I asked if they could escalate the issue to the development team and check the app logs linked to my account, since clearly something was failing specifically on the Pixel 6 Pro.

In the end, Meta Support acknowledged that the issue might be device-specific and promised to escalate my case for further investigation. They told me I’d receive a follow-up email within a few business days.

For now, the case is still open. My Quest 3 works, pairing is stable, and casting is fine on my old phone — but on the Pixel 6 Pro, it remains stuck. Until Meta provides an update, I’m left waiting with what seems like a casting bug that affects newer devices.

A month later I needed to connect my Headset to the phone again having a visitor. It was a lot easier to explain what to do by looking to the phone while Casting.

It didn't cast again. The same problem.

I contacted support again and they told me that they will move me to the Next level support team.

I was like Wow…the developers will get involved now and they will fix the problem on the app.

A week later and still no response from them. They must work hard on my problem…for sure!

Months later I found that the case was closed as I didn't got back to them with anything else.

Well done, Meta!
