If you have a Surfshark VPN subscription and is set to auto renew, but your card expired in the meantime and you think that your subscription will not auto renew as per your account notification, don't be convinced about that.
My Surfshark account is clearly showing that my card expired and if I want to keep using Surfshark to update the card details.
Let's say that you are in my situation and you don't use Surfshark enough so you very well don't care about it anymore, especially getting an email with the above notification that is confirming that your subscription will not update automatically because of the expired card details.
The expired card details does not matter. Surfshark has already your account details and they will request the money if your subscription is set to Auto renew. And even if is set to do not auto renew, because they can change OFF to ON very easy on the "auto renew" and you can't prove who did it from your account, but you can from the emails you received if you still have them. More about this, bellow.
Cancel the autorenewal to be sure you will not be charged for a new subscription.
If is still auto renewing and you see this on time you can get Money back guaranteed in maximum 30 days which is what I did too, by contacting Surfshark on the Support chat and letting them know that you are no more interested in their product.
If you see your payment in Pending on the bank account and you think you might be able to cancel it, you will not be able to do it because the payment was authorised by you in the first instance with the first payment.
You can raise a dispute thru your bank 5 days after the payment is done, but this is again something that is taking time and frustration.
Once your subscription is cancelled and you ask for the Money back, it will take about 7-10 days to get the money back.
It is not a big amount of money (£59.44 in my case for the next year) but you might get frustrated to have to chaise that amount of money now, when you discovered that you paid for what you didn't want, and again in 10 days to be sure that you got the money back.
More than that, close to the subscription end date I got a few marketing emails from Surfshark that were promising me a much more cheaper subscription for 2 years, not for 1 year as I just paid without my knowledge.
Here is a part of the email I received
Looking at the emails Surfshark was sending to me in the last 3 months before the expiration date I just found this email which is saying that the auto renew is actually OFF.
Should I trust Surfshark now? Not anymore!
I believe I had the autorenew OFF as I set it when I subscribed to them about 2 years ago.
They have the power to change things automatically on my account so I am quite sure that they changed it, in the meantime, to auto renew, for them to be covered with the payment that I didn't agree.
They probably hoped that I will not see the payment in the next 30 days when I can get the money back.
Here is now a good reason to check you bank account transactions from time to time to do not miss something fraudulent.
The email is so damn right! You can't even trust Surfshark!
"Thanks for ordering Surfshark - now you’re part of the crew!"
My first Surfshark subscription was £52.99 for 26 month and the second one is £59.44 for 1 year.
How is this "part of the crew"?
If is more expensive than when I got in, then they don't like my presence in the crew, right?!
A client should get a discount!
Only that they are not transparent at all!
Contacting support I was proposed to keep the subscription and get 12 months bonus.
I get the marketing strategy, but this time, Surfshark you have been unfair, impolite and fraudulent.
All the above emails print screens from Surfshark are on my email inbox and can be proven anytime that they are genuine and that I was charged without my approval by Surfshark.
